Christmas Fundraising

28 Nov

On Thursday 27 November Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale ran a Christmas Fair in the Barry Council Offices to raise funds for the Senior Health Shop. And, as always willing members of the group made a wide rnage of items for sale – hats, mittens, cardigans, crocheted blankets and hand puppets.

In addition to the knitted goods there was also an interesting array of other craft items for sale.

The mayor and his wife opened the event but in our view were upstaged by a volunteer  who modelled a trendy Santa outfit!

Is There No End to Their Talent?

The Barry ladies continue to busy themselves knitting and crocheting and sometimes even sewing. Recently, Ann brought in a lovely lap quilt that she had finished making.

Unusually, she has also been knitting – little hand puppets (to go in Christmas shoe boxes) modelled by Mo and Maureen.

Branching Out

17 Mar

Whilst there is a great enthusiasm within the group for knitting and crochet Babs has recently decided that she needs to try out other things. So, she has recently taken up rag rugging. Below is a cushion that she has just finished which is beautiful.

To make the cushion she has used old T shirts, chopped into small pieces, which give a lovely shaggy effect. What a great way of recycling!

Moments of Madness!

24 Feb

The group thrives week on week -always busy with the latest knitting or crocheting project.

For instance, Beryl, who is an expert at crochet is currently making little Welsh ladies for the Velindre hospital in Cardiff.

Others however, in between knitting and crocheting, have the odd moments of madness.

Here two of them are speaking to each other on the phone!

To be fair, they were sharing phone numbers.

And, Irene, who seemed eager to leave us, was using a different exit to normal!

It all adds to the rich tapestry of life as they say!

Rag Rugging

27 Jan

Having got over making numerous gifts for Christmas presents Babs has decided to try her hand at rag rugging using old T shirts. She is busy making a cushion cover which is looking fab – she described it as very therapeutic and is thoroughly enjoying herself!

Others are getting back into the swing of knitting and will no doubt rally to the call when asked to make items for future fundraising events . Many of the group recently knitted little Christmas stockings to help raise funds for Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale.
